Mas Puig de Caneres Dolmen

This Neolithic passage tomb features a short subcircular chamber and a narrow corridor. It is made of granite and is built on flat ground. Lluís Marià Vidal i Carreras named it the ‘Mas Puig de Casa Eras dolmen’ in 1894. It was excavated for the first time in 1920 by Pere Bosch Gimpera and Lluís Pericot, and later by Lluís Esteva i Cruañas in 1979. It is thought that access to the chamber was once provided by a dry-stone wall or a slab that has not been preserved. The materials uncovered during the excavations confirm that the dolmen dates to sometime during the Neolithic period or Copper Age. Based on its architectural style, Tarrús (2002) dates the dolmen to the first phase of the Empordà – Rosselló passage tombs, that is, to the end of the first half of the 4th millennium BC.
