The monastery of Santa Maria de Panissars was built during the government of Bernat Tallaferro, at the end of the 10th century. In 1097 it passed into the hands of the monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll, which founded an institution with hospital functions. By the end of the 17th century, the monastery and the church were abandoned and many of their stones had been used to build Bellaguarda Castle. The ruins of the monastery of Santa Maria de Panissars are on the same border line, on the Panissars pass. The only structures left standing are a few walls and the apse of the church. The apse, with a semicircular plan, maintains a quarter-sphere vault. It retains part of the uprights of the triumphal arch and a window. There are remnants of paint in the apse and white, red and yellow colors can be seen. Remains of a wall, one meter high, are found in the vicinity of the church, in some of which rows of opus spicatum can be seen.
