The sanctuary of the Mare de Déu del Mont was built in the fourteenth century at the request of Bernat, abbot of Sant Llorenç de Sous. He had it built in the middle of a mountain, on an old medieval castle. They were lands owned by the bishop of Girona, which led to the appropriate lawsuit between the two clergy that lasted a long time. It is a late Romanesque work, with parts, such as the apse, hidden by outbuildings that were later annexed. The Virgin Mary has been known since 1222. The inn was built in the 18th century. In the summers of 1884 and 1885, Mont was the residence of Monsignor Cinto Verdaguer, where he wrote one of his main works: Canigó. The cell where he lived is still preserved, and can be visited. It has spectacular views over the Pla de l’Estany, the Garrotxa, the Empordà and, of course, the Canigó.
