Torre d’en Reig

The Torre d’en Reig is a building of the early twentieth century in modernist style with Gaudí lines commissioned by the forest engineer Josep Reig, son of Vilabertran.

The building consists of a round tower with brick and ceramic ornamentation and gardens that surround the building of great beauty. After the untimely death of Josep Reig, the house passed into the hands of what would become the famous watercolorist Ramon Reig, at that time a fifteen-year-old man already fond of painting. On good afternoon Sundays, the Reig family invited some friends such as the Dalí family, Joan Xirau, Ramon Turro, Alexandre Deulofeu and Met Miravitlles.

According to writings by Anna Maria Dalí, she remembers those afternoons when Ramon Reig and Salvador Dalí went to paint, their mothers visited the farm and the others played in the garden. Anna Maria’s favorite place was the small lake, with an island in the middle covered with wild vegetation. According to her the house was large, painted white and the windows and balconies blue.

The Tower was circular and surrounded by windows. In the center was a column with a semi-circular sofa also to be able to observe the landscape of the Empordà.
