Archaeology Museum of Catalonia Empúries (MAC)

Empúries was the gateway for the Greek and Roman cultures on to the Iberian Peninsula. This site conserves the remains of a Greek town – the colonial Emporion enclave – and a Roman town – the former Emporiae – founded in the early 1st century BC above the foundations of a Roman military camp which had been established during the previous century.

Seeing the mosaics at the old stately homes is a must. Likewise, Asclepius’s statue, and the imposing Roman Forum. MAC-Empúries organizes a variety of highly interesting guided tours.

The first excavations on the site began in 1908 and constant scientific recovery work has been achieved ever since.

Within the Empúries Ruins site, you can access the Greek town, the Roman town and the archaeology museum.

Dramatised visits and visits for families in various languages are available during the summer.
