Explore the Barraca d’en Civada in La Garriga d’Empordà
The Barraca d’en Civada stands out as a unique construction, with characteristics that notably differentiate it from what is typically built in La Garrigueta during the third quarter of the 19th century. This barraca exhibits remarkable parallels with the middle part of the Costes creek, positioning itself as one of the tallest huts in the area.
With a vault reaching 415 cm and a diameter of 275 cm, the Barraca d’en Civada impresses not only with its dimensions but also with its internal structure. Inside, it features a dry stone basin, one of the few preserved in La Garriga. Hooks on the vault and a niche further enhance its historical value.
Recognized as a Local Cultural Heritage Asset, the barraca highlights its significance in the heritage of La Garriga d’Empordà. The Gonçal Comellas School from Avinyonet de Puigventós has sponsored this element as part of the “Awareness of the local population for the safeguarding of La Garriga d’Empordà” initiative within the framework of the PECT “Enhancement of dry stone heritage in La Garriga d’Empordà”. Discover the historical richness of this unique construction and contribute to its preservation.
