The Empordà is a land full of contrasts. Its coastline and inland plains, protected by various mountainous areas, make this part of Catalonia unique with its wide variety of landscapes. But if there is one thing that stands out in the Empordà, it is the human landscape, drawn by the people. Listening to conversations between the fishermen on the seashore, or among farmers in the countryside, reflects a way of being, a way of feeling and a way of doing things, and helps to shape an identity that is both deeply rooted in the territory and, at the same time, inclusive.
The painter Salvador Dalí and the writer Josep Pla are just two of the famous people from the Empordà.
The former was born in Figueres (Empordà) and the latter in Palafrugell (Baix Empordà).
