Vilabertran is a small town of 907 inhabitants, next to the city of Figueres. The municipality is quite small, with an area of 2.29 km located in the Empordà plain, at the confluence of the rivers Manol and Muga, whose confluence is downstream of Vilabertran.
It extends to the east of the monastery of Santa Maria de Vilabertran, with narrow, rectilinear streets that intersect at right angles. Plaça de Catalunya and Plaça dels Hortolans, together with Carrer de l’Empordà and Carrer de Santa Maria, form the town’s urban center, where most of the commercial establishments, cafés and some of the modern municipal facilities are concentrated.
