Castle of the Archdeacons

Isolated building with a semi-circular arched portal on the facade. Next to it, stands the quadrangular tower that on the first floor has a crown window, biforated with a semicircular arch and with curved imposts. The column and capital, with floral and geometric decoration, are well preserved. At the bottom we see some loopholes. The other bodies of the palace and the vaults do not exist; they have collapsed due to the passage of time. It was the possession of the archdeacons of Empúries and Besalú. The preserved elements of the old castle of Palau Sardiaca date from the 14th century. The palace was in a state of ruin in the 15th century, when it was rebuilt. There is also evidence of another restoration carried out in 1626, as we can see in a lintel that has the date and the coat of arms of the Cartelà family. The tower was preserved in all its original height until the years 1936-1939, when the upper part fell.
