Medieval Bridge in Biure: A Link to the Past in the Heart of the Town

Discover the Medieval Bridge that withstands the test of time in Biure, located in the heart of the urban nucleus on the eastern side of the municipality, gracefully positioned above the Ricardell River.

This medieval bridge, meticulously restored, preserves its historical essence. Comprising a single lowered arch originally constructed with roughly hewn stone arranged in a herringbone pattern, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. The arch features reinforcement on the intrados, built with bricks arranged in a herringbone pattern, showcasing the architectural mastery of the medieval era.

At the top, the bridge displays two low-rise railings, crafted with the same type of masonry that characterizes the rest of the structure. Although the pavement is currently asphalt, it has been carefully restored to maintain its authenticity. One of the abutments opens up, forming a funnel-shaped plant, adding a distinctive touch to its architecture.

The construction in roughly hewn and untreated stone of various sizes, bound with lime mortar and irregularly arranged, reflects the skill of medieval craftsmen. Despite the passage of time, the Medieval Bridge in Biure retains its charm, with a plastered coating that, despite the marks of time, attests to its beauty and historical significance.
