The place and the church of Llançà appear documented from the 10th century as the possession of the abbey of Sant Pere de Rodes, which enjoyed all the feudal rights over Llançà. A document from 1455 states that one of the monks of the community held the position of paborde of Llançà, a title that still existed in 1807. The economic boom due to the large production of wine and oil encouraged the demolition of the old Romanesque church and to build a new one bigger and majestic between the years 1690-1765 inside the nucleus surrounded by the walls. It was built on the old castle-palace of the abbots of Sant Pere de Rodes. The consecration of the new church took place on January 7, 1730 and in 1782 a monumental baroque altarpiece was commissioned from the sculptor Vicenç Real. During the Spanish Civil War it was destroyed and turned into a barracks. After the war, it was restored and restored.
