Made in Figueres. The city of locomotion

Figueres has never been an industrial city. And yet in the age of industrialization it grew at the pace of the leading Catalan cities, maintaining its place in the ranking of the main populations of the country with a series of initiatives that combine a significant accumulation of capital and labor and a good dose of technological innovation.

This singularity of Figueres is demonstrated in the bicycle and, above all, motorcycle factories. Few cities have four brands of their own, such as Rieju, Gimson, Ruter, and M.A.F.

“Made in Figueres. The city of locomotion ”, curated by Josep Algans, Manel Gràvalos and Francesc Guillamet, is a journey through the unique history of the industrialization of Figueres, talking about the historical context, the territory, the factories and the manufacturers, the machines or the ‘art.

The exhibition can be seen in the Museu de l’Empordà and in the Sala d’exposicions l’Escorxador.
