This itinerary runs through the Albera foothills, which is the transition zone between the Serra and the Empordà plain. The landscape is characterized by the mosaic made up of vineyards, olive groves, cleared cork forests with scrub and rocky outcrops. This space is known by some as the Aspres de l’Albera.
The area has the particularity of being dotted with places where rainwater accumulates after being retained by impermeable soils, these are the Basses. Most of these spaces are protected: they are part of the Natura 2000 Network called Basses de l’Albera. They only have water after heavy rains, usually in the spring, to dry up completely in the summer. During the wet period, which is always short, the ponds burst into life, with plants and animals adapted to this ephemeral environment.
On this excursion, hopefully, we will be able to enjoy the three pools of Gutina.
