Portbou, the sea of ​​the Pyrenees! Kayaking, hiking and wines by the water

Can you imagine discovering the same environment first by land and then by sea? Two routes with two complementary perspectives, right where the Pyrenees go into the sea. The walking route is of great historical value. From Portbou it climbs to the Coll dels Belitres (165m), a cross-border crossing and one of the main starting points for the exile * of the Catalan republicans at the end of the Civil War. From the pass the path continues to the Puig de Cervera (207m) where you get a great panoramic view of the tip of Cap de Creus and the Mar d’Amunt, the Bay of Portbou and the Sierra de l’Albera, the summit of the Querroig, Cervera and the Gulf of Leon. The way back is along the southern slope of the mountain and in Coll dels Belitres the same way up is resumed. Once you have finished the route on foot, it’s time to take a kayak and let yourself be carried away by the magnificent views of the cliffs in Portbou Bay, to Punta de l’Ocell. At the end, there is a tasting of DO Empordà wines by the local winery Somni d’istiu. Along the route we find several monuments and information panels in memory and homage to the thousands of refugees from the war, as well as bunkers that remind us of the historical relevance of this place.
