Espolla Cooperative Cellar

Discover the Tradition of Espolla Cooperative Cellar: A Century-Old Vinous Legacy

The Espolla Cooperative Cellar stands as one of the oldest wineries in the Alt Empordà region, with its foundation dating back to 1931. This cellar emerged from the vision and determination of a group of viticulturists aiming to enhance the quality of their products and market them with excellence. Since then, a constant spirit of improvement has guided this cellar, maintaining the traditional spirit in vine cultivation and wine production while progressively incorporating the most advanced technological enhancements.

Over time and with the addition of new partners, the diversity of soils and terrains within Espolla Cellar’s own vineyards has significantly increased. These lands encompass granitic, clayey, and slate soils, with elevations reaching up to 150 meters above sea level. The proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, the foothills of the Albera mountain range, and the dry north Tramontana wind shape a distinctive landscape and environment where traditional Empordà grape varieties such as Carinyena, Muscat, Macabeu, and Lledoner (Garnatxa) thrive alongside newer additions like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.

This rich blend of tradition, innovation, and an exceptional environment defines the Espolla Cooperative Cellar, creating wines with genuine personality. Each drop tells a story and captures the essence of a winemaking region with a century-old legacy.
